Description Thomas Kuther 2005-05-31 02:52:23 UTC
Hi there!

i'm currently running xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4
for quite a long time allready i get an error ehn i try to update xorg-x11.
i tried the following:
- meanwhile various versions of xorg-x11: 6.8.0-r5, 6.8.2, 6.8.2-r1, 6.8.2-r2,
6.8.99.8
- meanwhile different versions of portage
- a complete fresh x86 install
- a complete fresh ~x86 install
- a complete recompile of current system
- RAM is checked and ok
- different harddisks and filesystems
- different kernels

the error remains the same:

it starts compiling with a little strange message:

* Previous xorg-x11 installation NOT detected.

then compiles cleanly, and on merge to / it fails always at exactly the same
point with

IOError: [Errno 21] Is a directory:
'/var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.8.99.8/image//var/lib/xdm'

here is an meanwhile pretty old forum post which discribes what all i tried:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-307484

regarding xorg 6.8.2 many people told me to be happy with 6.8.0, but anyways
this is annoying, cause rest of the system works flawlessly

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge xorg-x11

Actual Results:
portage fails on merge with:
IOError: [Errno 21] Is a directory:
'/var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.8.99.8/image//var/lib/xdm'

Expected Results:
it should merge propperly
