Haruna is a new video player for KDE meant to replace the old Dragon (kde-apps/dragon). Dragon uses Phonon as a backend, which uses VLC as a backend (Phonon used to have a GStreamer backend too). VLC still requires ffmpeg-4 for VA-API hardware decoding, which is suboptimal. (https://bugs.gentoo.org/864721) Haruna solves this by using MPV as a backend. https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/haruna Haruna is still not part of KDE Gear and doesn't have version numbers as such, so for now it makes more sense to put it under media-video rather than kde-apps.
