net-misc/freerdp:3 has removed wayland client interface because it is deprecated and not maintained anymore upstream (#930197). When building krdc with rdp on a wayland system, support for wayland is not checked and you end up with a message saying that krdc cannot find wlfreerdp. Installing freerdp:2 with the useflags wayland and client fixes the issue, but the ebuild should properly select freerdp:2 in this case. Reproducible: Always

I currently have the following in package.use to deal with the situation: net-misc/freerdp:2 client net-misc/freerdp:3 -client freerdp is slotted but only one slot can install client(s) at a time. On my system freerdp is only pulled by krdc on my system (so I could technically mask freerdp:3 instead). Interestingly the dependency listed by equery is kde-apps/krdc-23.08.5-r2 (rdp ? >=net-misc/freerdp-1.1.0_beta1[X]) but on a wayland system it should be wayland instead of X.
As I understand it: krdc-23 calls xfreerdp or wlfreerdp. Getting the dependencies right here is difficult since since the the binary to call is determined at runtime? Installing net-misc/freerdp:2[client,wayland] should resolve the issue. krdc-24 directly links with libfreerdp2 and does not call any freerdp binary, so I expect upgrading to krdc-24 would also resolve the issue.
I was not aware that krdc-24.02.2 is using the library directly. This is a much better way to handle it. krdc-23.08.5 does indeed do runtime detection and has no provision for fallback, it is all hardcoded. Adding to that, the fact that krdc does not have (or need) a wayland useflag that could be requesting matching dependencies makes the situation completely intractable. The only thing would be to have some kind of info message in 23.08.5 about wayland systems.
