Description Michael Huber 2005-05-17 16:03:23 UTC
The last stable x86 inkscape version is very old (0.37).
Please consider marking the latest 0.41-version stable.

media-gfx/inkscape-0.41 stable request

- works fine overhere x86 for 1 months
Comment 2 Bryce Harrington 2005-06-04 12:21:04 UTC
What actions must be done to get Inkscape increased to 0.41? Is there
something I can do to help achieve this? Are there problems that need to be
resolved, or packaging that needs to be done?

Inkscape 0.37 is ancient, and it's troubling that Gentoo is still using it,
when other distros are at 0.40 and 0.41. 0.41 is *much* more stable than 0.37
and has a number of better features.

A couple months ago I worked on getting all of the Gentoo bugs listed against
Inkscape resolved, in hopes that would pave the way for moving from 0.37 to
0.41. Unfortunately, it still is at 0.37 even so.

I'm willing to put in some time if needed. We're starting on preparations for
the Inkscape 0.42 release, and I'd really like to get Gentoo up to at least
0.41, so if there are bugs to be fixed, or packaging to be done, or whatever,
I'd be happy to help.

OK, we can push it into stable. Arch testers, please mark stable inkscape-0.41.
Comment 4 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-05 05:07:37 UTC
stable on ppc64. used 0.41 some weeks now.
Comment 5 Marcus D. Hanwell (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-05 05:16:34 UTC
Can't be keyworded stable as we only have media-gfx/pstoedit-3.40 keyworded
(~amd64), and can't stabilise on that until the maintainer arch does. I have
been using inkscape-0.41 for several weeks with no issues on amd64, but haven't
been using the plugins very much as yet.
Comment 6 Bryce Harrington 2005-06-05 08:55:56 UTC
The plug-ins are optional requirements, so if the user does not have pstoedit
installed, inkscape will still function properly, just with fewer features.
Specifically, Adobe Illustrator output, and Postscript output.

While the functionality pstoedit provides is important to many users, it's
only loosely coupled to Inkscape, and can be upgraded completely
independently. It's a run-time dependency detected by Inkscape on the fly
rather than a link-time dependency. If the lack of a stable pstoedit is
hindering making Inkscape 0.41 stable, you could remove it as a dependency for
Inkscape. Then, if the user installs it independently, inkscape will pick it
up. Later, when pstoedit does stabilize, you can re-add it as a dependency.

Comment 7 Bryce Harrington 2005-06-05 09:02:23 UTC
It looks like pstoedit 3.33 is stable - perhaps Inkscape could be made
dependent on that version instead of 3.40?
Comment 8 Marcus D. Hanwell (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-05 09:16:05 UTC
I think you misundertand the problem slightly. Only media-gfx/pstoedit-3.40 has
the ~amd64 keyword. All previous versions are totally untested on amd64, and so
could not be stabilised. Once the maintainer marks 3.40 stable, I can go ahead
and mark that stable on amd64 as there are no bugs I know about.

Gentoo policy is that all deps for a stable package must be stable, and
packages should usually have been in ~amd64 (or whatever testing branch) for at
least one month before being stabilised. Removing pstoedit as a dep would allow
me to mark inkscape-0.41 stable, or stabilising pstoedit-3.40.
Comment 9 Bryce Harrington 2005-06-05 09:29:59 UTC
Ah, I understand. But for stabilizing inkscape x86, this should not be an
issue?
Comment 10 Marcus D. Hanwell (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-05 11:01:19 UTC
Totally unrelated - x86 and amd64 have different stable trees and their dep
tree looks OK to stabilise inkscape.
Comment 11 Daniel Webert 2005-06-06 05:57:51 UTC
made a stable request (bug #95295) for pstoedit-3.40 ... ppc64 already stablized
it :) ...
Comment 12 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-08 17:57:54 UTC
errr... there is a new patch in 0.41-r1 do you want use to mark that instead or
wait ?
Comment 13 Karol Wojtaszek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-09 07:12:25 UTC
OK, 0.40-r1 is better idea. Sorry for the mistake.
Comment 14 Karol Wojtaszek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-09 08:12:53 UTC
amd64 done
Comment 15 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-09 18:45:59 UTC
media-gfx/pstoedit-4.30 is gone from the mirrors and SRC_URI.
The homepage has a new URL but the new file has a different md5 & size...
Comment 16 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-10 05:53:10 UTC
0.40-r1 stable on sparc.
for 0.41* to go stable i need pstoedit and 30 days to pass by on ~sparc.
Comment 17 Joe Jezak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-10 09:28:04 UTC
Marked ppc stable.

Comment 18 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-11 03:30:17 UTC
stable on ppc64
Comment 19 yannek 2005-06-20 09:24:27 UTC
The last missing dependency for x86 should have been bumped to stable by bug #96400.
Comment 20 Bryce Harrington 2005-07-02 14:19:54 UTC
Can someone move Inkscape 0.41 to stable? It's marked stable for 4 other
archs, and bug 95205 that this was dependant was resolved a couple weeks ago.
Comment 21 Marc Hildebrand (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-05 01:36:04 UTC
Version 0.41-r1 marked stable.
Thanks for your patience, I'll try to keep up a bit better next time ;)
Cheers,
Marc.
