After installing ALSA according to Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide, I cannot play output of two programs simultaneously. When I run XMMS and run mpg123 into it, I get "Can't open /dev/dsp!" message. I suggest a chapter describing configuration of software mixing capability be added into Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide, provided that Gentoo Linux is capable of supporting that, of course. this bug is _also_ a dup of bug 92622. please search before filing... if you have any comments about the new guide (especially if this issue is still present), please post then at bug 92622
So, clock, am I correct when I assume that you recommend description of dmix usage *or* other ways to solve inability of HW mixing on cheap soundcards? Good point, but should go to the new ALSA guide, as smithj stated. Thanks for your feedback, anyway.
New doc might clear this up. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 92622 ***
