Our version is pretty outdated and while there is a version bump request in https://bugs.gentoo.org/828995 nothing happened for years.
I think it's better to point users to the mva overlay [1] which seems to keep up-to-date ebuilds for android-ndk.

Also ebuild is at EAPI6.
