Description mannan 2024-01-22 00:36:21 UTC
There should be a site somewhere on the Gentoo Wiki that lists the mirrors that have the binpkgs for Gentoo PPC. Would be useful for those with old hardware lying around. I'm willing to take it on soon.

For clarity from a discussion on Discord.

The user has highlighted an issue with current binhost docs not be clear for users on alt arches. After checking there findings I have confirmed this needs improving so will work with them to resolve.

Please specify which docs you're referring to.

The announcement on gentoo.org at least was clear about which arches are covered beyond stage 3.

I was referring to this wiki page: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_Binary_Host_Quickstart#binrepos.conf, as it was not obvious which mirrors carry ppc binpkgs. I just reread the announcement and now realize ppc binpkgs aren't offered beyond stage3 so this wouldn't even matter anyway.

This should be resolved with https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_Binary_Host_Quickstart#Other_arches_and_experimental_profiles_on_amd64_and_arm64

As a note for future reference, issues like these which you can't resolve yourself are better highlighted in the talk page of the article in question or brought up in #gentoo-wiki channels if you feel the need. Thanks for reporting nevertheless.
