I attempted to launch Discovery.  I get the message :
 
Discover currently cannot be used to install any apps or perform
system updates because nine of its backends are available.

Please note:

This happens more times than not.

Is this about KDE Discover (kde-plasma/discover)?

Gentoo only supports three backends: snap, flatpak and fwupd(firmware).

You cannot use Discover to manage portage because portage in the packagekit backend has been neglected.
