last update of some GNOME components installed gnome-base/gnome-menus-2.10.0 on my mainly KDE-based system. This ebuild installs /etc/xdg menu stuff. KDE 3.4 seems to be prepared for this and switches its menus to the new layout. Nothing wrong till now. Standards are great... ;-) BUT: this is only a very basic layout and implements only GNOME stuff. Some KDE-Menus are missing now (incl. some icons). I attach a PNG to demonstrate this. With this broken layout (from the KDE point of view), lot of programs are missing (i.e. KWrite) and so also the mime-types. If you click on a text/plain file, it opens AbiWord on my system, instead of KWrite. removing 'gnome-menus' and deleting /etc/xdg, plus restarting Kicker solves that problem at all. But since there're dependencies to 'gnome-menus' from the gnome-ebuilds, portage want to install it all the time again and again. That's VERY odd! KDE 3.4 (I didn't tested other versions) is totally broken with this incomplete XDG menu-layout. How can this be solved to please both KDE and GNOME users? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. check your KDE menu layout 2. emerge gnome-menus 3. check your menus again => broken
Created attachment 57878 [details] KDE-broken-menus.png this is the KDE menu layout after emerging "gnome-menus".
