Description Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-30 20:38:41 UTC
Emerging the 0.4.0 of wpa-supplicant in association with the ipw2200 1.0.3 drivers, cause a ioctl[SIOCSIWPMKSA]: Operation not supported error. Starting right after wpa_supplicant on eth1 in the init net.eth1 script.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Emerge Wpa-supplicant-0.4.0
2.reboot with wpa-supplicant on ipw2200
3.see error when loading and running net.eth1 script

Actual Results:
driver continues to load and get address but can not go more then 15 feet from
base station without signal dropping to almost nill

Expected Results:
wpa-supplicant loads without error and allows free roaming within the range of
the wireless network, not having to be within 15 or so feet for decent connection.

Receiving similar error with madwifi-0.1_pre20050420 and baselayout-1.11.9-r1, although with different results.

iwconfig shows that ath0 properly associates with the desired AP, properly connect, but will continue to cycle through all other channels and wpa_supplicant.conf entries despite the fact.

Manually setting the network channel stopped channel cycling, but it continued to cycle between the desired AP and blank-ESSID.

Again, version 0.3.8 does not have this problem.
Comment 3 Henrik Brix Andersen 2005-05-02 02:05:38 UTC
As the ChangeLog states, wpa_supplicant-0.4.0 is a development snapshot. Please report this issue upstream.
