Despite the title I think this is probably a patchelf bug. That wouldn't surprise me, patchelf has always been prone to breakage, and it's very arch-specific. It's been keyworded on sparc for years, but I haven't been able to run the tests. Please could you try them? This will be an issue for upstream in any case.
