Bit lost with this one. qtmultimedia is installed. (This prevents me from testing freecad bump currently)

Could it be a gcc-12 issue? Did a quick ebuild configure on my machine which uses gcc-11 without issues. Currently installing dependencies in a test chroot using gcc-12 to verify this. Although, if gcc-12 related, I do have no idea what's the cause.
Unfortunately no, same issue with gcc-11. I guess it's about some qt pkg use flags somehow...
It works as well for me in my test chroot using gcc-12. Could it be related to the parallel build issue, like in bug #856430? I also thought to remember having the same bug from ago's tinderbox, in which case qtmultimedia wasn't installed, although it's listed in the dependencies, but couldn't find the bug, only one from toral with missing qtconcurrent. Do you have qtmultimedia package installed?
I had, but... my-test-container-snap-26924 ~ # equery f qtmultimedia * Searching for qtmultimedia ... * Contents of dev-qt/qtmultimedia-5.15.5-r1: my-test-container-snap-26924 ~ # that's a new interesting one. Lol. Reinstalled qtmultimedia and compiling openscad now.
So it's the same as the one I remember. Question is, why is qtmultimedia not installed sometimes? And which conditions lead to it not being installed?
It's hard to say whether it's a qt-related issue or binpkg-related issue. But if you've faced this before, maybe it's going to be reproduced one day.
fwiw, I still haven't seen any of these since using --complete-graph in EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS (which we recommend if doing arch testing style emerges).
(In reply to Sam James from comment #10) > fwiw, I still haven't seen any of these since using --complete-graph in > EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS (which we recommend if doing arch testing style emerges). Gonna try using that from now on!
(In reply to Sam James from comment #10) > fwiw, I still haven't seen any of these since using --complete-graph in > EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS (which we recommend if doing arch testing style emerges). So that's probably the reason why I could never reproduce these. I'm using this setting for many years in EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS.
Also one thing that came to mind was a parallel-install bug, I've hit those before but not like this.

Was it like the bug mentioned here?
I think you're misunderstanding the issue here. qtmultimedia was *installed*, but the contents of that package was *empty*. Never hit anything like that before, and I don't know whether it was a broken binpkg, or whether installing from that binpkg somehow failed. Unfortunately I didn't realize quick enough to check e.g. size of that binpkg package. I guess it could also be some sort of fs issue...
