DBUS 0.31 is out ( http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software_2fdbus ). It is required for HAL 0.5, and will be required for new versions of gnome-volume-manager and ivman, therefore it would be good to get this in Portage quickly. I tried simply renaming the old ebuild, and it mostly worked, but there was a problem with applying one of the patches. I disabled the patches in the ebuild and it succesfully compiled and installed. ( I'm not familiar with the purpose of the patches, or if they will be required with the new version of dbus. ) I then had to change /etc/init.d/dbus, as /usr/bin/dbus-daemon-1 is now named /usr/bin/dbus-daemon; after these changes, it appears to work fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
we know about releases, i have no intention of breaking everything dbus using in the tree at this point.
Will you reconsider this yet? CVS versions of both gnome-volume-manager and Ivman now use HAL 0.5 and thus dbus 0.3. Surely it couldn't do too much harm if you package.mask it?
cvs ? yeah, i really have to keep gentoo working with cvs type of stuff in stable... it will be dealt with when there's time.
the only question is: how many apps in portage are using dbus/hal and how many of them are not prepared for the latest versions yet. the rest is solved by revdep-rebuild. ;) latest HAL has so many enhancements/bug fixes, that it is worth to have it in portage. Of course, if it breaks too much, then not. But how can we check this w/o working ebuilds in portage? I would opt for masked ebuilds. So we can test it and can report problems. But even ~arch users will not install it by default. please! ;)
Do you have any problems with the concept of 'time' ? Then stop wasting mine here.
sorry if I waste your time. But you sound a little bit arrogant to me in this context. The only thing I (we) asked for, is to put the working ebuilds into portage and mask them. And your response to this is not very cute. I'm doing a lot for Gentoo (mainly for net-dialup, ISDN and CAPI). Just grep for my name in the portage tree. I think, we all can be more friendly to each other!
No you aren't sorry to waste my time, because you keep on doing it instead of reading what I really said.
I've read what you've really said. That's why I'm so upset. But you've not read what I said. If users who want to help (and actually doing this) are wasting your time, then you should reconsider your job as a maintainer (IMHO). But I stop this thread now. It's not the right place to argue. BugZilla is to solve problems and to enhance Gentoo. I will not "waste" your time anymore.
I see no 'actually doing things help' anywhere in your comments, I just see a lot of the same asking for something that obviously shouldn't be a priority to me given it's unstable state. The keyword here is 'time' and I just don't have it at this point, get it ? Is it really that hard ? And the few moments I do have I spend reading your petty allegations and misinterpretations and even responding to them. Granted, I should be wiser than this and just let it go...

Hi, don't want to push anybody over here. However, I managed to get the latest skype release compile and probably run (Bug 90070). It depends on dbus-0.32. So I drop a note about it. I used the ebuild from dbus.0.32.4 w/o the patch relating to bug 78617. I did not do any specific testing of dbus. However it compiled and skype seems to work - w/o any heavy usage though.
