Description Jeff Thomas 2005-02-19 00:33:27 UTC
I have problems with my wireless USB card. It runs on a ZyDas zd1211 chipset. I am using the drivers from http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~tuna/zd1211/ and I am on the 2.6.10-r6 kernel.

To start, I know my drivers are working properly and everything so that is not an issue.

When I start my computer with the card plugged in all seemd to go normal, the module autoloads but as soo as the startup process goes to start net.eth0, the card just keeps flashing constantly and will not connect to a network. And after I am into a console I cannot get it to connect for the life of me with /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart.

Now on the other hand, when the card is not plugged in during the boot process, the module loads ok and when it gets to loading the net.eth0 it fails immediatly. But that is not a problem cause after that fails, I then plug in the device and do a /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart and vua-la...it works perfectly. I do not know what in the hell is causing this.

I have tried coldplug and it still doesnt work.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug the Wireless USB card into computer before booting it up.

2. When Gentoo boots up it will not connect to the network and the light on the card is blinking at a steady rate. I cannot I try /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart and it still fails to connect.

3. If I shut the computer down again, and leave the card unplugged during the whole boot process, the connect to network fails obviously, but I then plug the card in after logging into the console and I can restart the network using /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart and it works perfectly.

Actual Results:
The USB wireless card will not connect if plugged in during the boot process.

Expected Results:
It should load and connect each time without having to be unplugged each boot.

this was a udev/kernel detection issue, that is fixed in newer kernels.
