Ruben: An explaining sentence and url would be nice, attachments as text/plain only, please. Browsers are not aware of a mimetype text/ebuild.
Comment 4 Ruben Jenster 2005-03-03 09:58:14 UTC
kpager2 is a really powerfull and very eyecandy pager for the kdesktop environment. you can get additional information on http://www.uni-weimar.de/~wolff3/

I will take care in future to submit ebuilds as text, till now I have choosen autodetect.

Regards

Ruben

kpager2-0.6.0 doesn't work yet with kde-3.4
The loading behaviour of the applet is somehow borked.

from http://www.KDE-Apps.org/content/show.php?content=7120

Kicker of KDE 3.4 seems to have problems loading this applet. If you really want to test the applet, either
 o kill kicker after starting KDE, wait until kicker is restarted and add kpager2, or
 o start appletproxy /opt/kde3/share/apps/kicker/applets/kpager2.desktop

 We are working on this.
 KDE3.4 users! - Stay tuned.
 KDE3.3 users! - Have fun! :)

Ruben: I just checked it ... :) you are right of course... I'm switching desktops by hand, so it's not a problem for me. but you are right - for portage it has to wait :( (or maybe leave with ~arch ?)

kpager2-0.6.0a.ebuild

Ruben - on site from your link I have read this:
"Switching desktops won't work if you enabled 3ddesktop, but don't have
3ddesktop installed."

I think the best USE flag will be opengl - cause it's needed for 3d effects...

This ebuild depends on 3ddesktop, if USE="opengl" is set.

Przemek

Hey, the a in there is kinda illegal for ebuild names. Naming is 0.6.0-r1 would be a better choice. And then put in the Changelog that its the 'a' build. :)

Are you sure of this?? I think I remember some ebuild with 'a' in the name...

kpager2-0.6.0.ebuild

ebuild works on kde without arts (USE="-arts")
Comment 14 Rafal Ciszynski 2005-04-22 12:54:59 UTC
Hi

It's works for me on kde-3.4.0!!!

I edit /etc/env.d/99kde-env:
---------------------------------------
PATH=/usr/kde/3.4/bin
ROOTPATH=/usr/kde/3.4/bin
LDPATH=/usr/kde/3.4/lib
KDEDIRS=/usr
CONFIG_PROTECT=/usr/share/config
KDE_MALLOC=1
KDE_IS_PRELINKED=1
---------------------------------------

Now:
source /etc/profile
env-update

... and reboot.
Maybe it's bug in kde-env*.ebuild.

Cheers

kpager2-0.6.0.ebuild

- need-kde called after RDEPEND
- name of ebuild changed to 0.6.0 (there is no other 0.6.0 package on authors
server...)
- better description
- added pkg_postinst info for kde-3.4.x users
- better desktop patch
- added runtime patch - ( http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 -
possible cause? thread)

Rafal - I'm not using arts and there are no problems with compilation.

Cheers,
Przemek

sorry - it was very late yesterday when I post my bump ;))))
not:
- added runtime patch - ( http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 -
possible cause? thread)
but:
- added runtime patch - ( http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 -
possible cause of bug for kde-3.4.x? description in kde-look thread)

anyway - I played a bit with this patch and I don't see any difference :/ this
one was submitted to fast... Sorry :)

kpager2-0.6.0b.ebuild

I think naming the ebuild like the package is better than setting a special
MY_P in the ebuild, even if a appending b is not covered by emerge, normally.
emerge knows that package-x.yb is newer than package-x.ya or package-x.y
Comment 21 Przemyslaw Maciag (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-10 14:00:55 UTC
here ( http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=31166 ) we can read:
"This is a bug fix for kpager2 that allows it to load properly into the kde 3.4
kicker.

I DID NOT write this software, and all credit goes to the author Sebastian Wolff."

so this isn't 'real' kpager release, but a fork... :|

from my point of view it would be best, if kapger author (Sebastian Wolff) say
something now, because this should be a patch for kpager, not release.

I don't know what would be best politic - eigther add to portage kpager-0.6b
(not original sources), or add kpager-0.6a with a patch with kde-3.4.x fix...

anyway - I'm just pointing you to this problem.

yeap - I agree

sorry for my previous post. kpager2 author did add a coment:
"He actually did, but I don't have the time to continue developing Kpager2 at
the moment. Let me see, what my thesis is doing...

Thanks for the credits"

as I see it - he gives permission for developing kpager2 instead of him.

as for the ebuild:
- need-kde funciton has to be lunch _after_ specifing DEPEND/RDEPEND
- homepage address is invalid now - changed to kde-apps
- patch for desktop file

PS. I works!! ;)

Cheers,
Przemek

the updated kpager-0.5.2.ebuild that uses the the kpager2-compile.patch from
the ${FILESDIR}.

Ruben - maybe a silly question ;) - why to use 0.5.2, when 0.6.0b is available?
It's now works great with kde-3.4... ??

Best regards,
Przemek
Comment 26 Ruben Jenster 2005-11-13 07:48:29 UTC
I don't need/use the 3ddesktop gimmick and 0.5.2 has worked perfectly for me
till now.
So is there any reason why I should use 0.6.0b?

0.5.2 is not supported anymore by the author. it's rather normal I think, that
older versions are left behind. because of that, it's hard to add something like
that into portage...

just my '2 cents' ;)

PS. 3ddesktop staff can be easly turned off, so it's not a problem, I think :)

kpager2-0.6.0b-gcc4.patch

This fixes compilation with GCC 4.1.
Comment 29 Tomasz Jarzynka 2006-11-23 11:43:35 UTC
Hi,

any update on the possibility of including this ebuild?
I spent a while crafting an ebuild and patch before I realized it is already in bugzilla o_O

The tarball uses a generic kde autotools mechanism so it builds and installs cleanly, works with KDE-3.5.5 and with the provided patch (or mine for that matter) builds file on GCC-4.1.1.

So I suggest including the ebuild especially since it's so much prettier and more useful than the default pager.

(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug)
'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached
to this bug.
This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the
main tree.

Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild
submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely
manner. There are simply too many new packages.

Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The
sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to
commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry
into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this
and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =)

Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us.
We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time.

Thanks,
On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team,
Jeremy.
