Description Mr. Borje Holmberg 2005-02-13 11:28:18 UTC
I wonder if it might be possible to get the vmware-workstation-4.5.2.8848-r2.ebuild back to portage or if it is possible to reemerge that version from somewhere.

The r5 ebuild doesn't work with /etc/init.d/vmware start.

The only way to get it working is upon every reboot to run the /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl without running the /etc/init.d/vmware start

It is also not possible to rmmod vmnet - it complains that it is being used.

It is also not possible to run /etc/init.d/vmware stop, coz it says it has not been started, although it works with the /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl as su.

And last it screws all sound settings in the mixer.

I miss the r2 ebuild. If I could get hold on it again, I would put it in /etc/portage/package.mask

no, security issue

The differences between what is installed between the -r2 and the -r5 ebuilds is minimal, at most. Are you sure there is not another problem here?

Please post your emerge --info.

Also, are you running udev?
Comment 3 Mr. Borje Holmberg 2005-02-14 14:28:30 UTC
There is no error message on install.

And yes, I do run udev.

I already have the suggested changes in my udev.rules, so I guess it is no duplicate of the referred to other bug.
