At this point any new dependency on python:2.7 is to be considered a serious regression. Furthermore, runtime deps on python:2.7 are explicitly forbidden (only build-time use is allowed).
I am waiting for info from upstream if we can patch the vmware plugin. If this would take too long I will remove the plugin until it has been ported to py3
