I have reported an incident on mail-client/trojita that caused an SEGV on viewing a HTML mail. That boiled down to be an qtwebkit issue. Upstream suggests that the code is not build in release mode, otherwise the ASSERT would not have triggered. Regardless if the ASSERT itself is wrong (which I think it is), the comment on the "not build in release mod" seems valid too. qtwebkit is unlikely to receive any fixes anymore and trojita is queued for last-rites.

You make a "joke" on the product Trojita for some reason or the other, stating it is ill and imminent dead will follow. I fail to understand why it was necessary for you to make such statement. If you consider Trojita end of life because it is QtWebkit (opposed to QtWebengine) that is an upstream concern, as long it cleanly compiles and works I don't see any reason to complain, you are the maintainer of the Trojita ebuild the ebuild functions, job well done. When the Qt bugtracker mentions that qtwebkit in gentoo is not build in release mode, and only because of that will trigger the assert, that is a topic to address for the maintainer of the qtwebkit ebuild.

I suspect he sees no value in investing in an ebuild for a program using obsolete libraries with no sign of a fix on the way. Please be calm and polite when using our Bugzilla or don’t use it at all.

You still have not provided any linking bug mentioning release / debug build. Just a lot of packages based on 'deprecated qtwebkit'.
