I have an athlon64 and radeon system and with the new ati drivers, I am able to run quake3 with no problems. The ati-drivers still need some "multilib" work, but there is no reason to require nvidia drivers for everyone... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Just a note, quake3 tries to load the 64bit dri driver by default, so you have to tell it where to look for the 32bit one. I do this by adding export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib/modules/dri to the launcher in /usr/games/bin. Sorry about posting a semi-different issue in this bug.
I have no intentions on fixing this as the amd64 team has made it quite apparent that they don't care about the status of the stable tree or breakage. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 78646 ***
