After I updated my system with an emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y -av @world, it update ppp from version 2.4.8-r1 to 2.4.9-r2.

After that upgrade, I can no more connect my vpn and I see in the log:

pppd[3817]: Plugin /usr/lib64/pppd/2.4.7/nm-l2tp-pppd-plugin.so is for pppd version 2.4.8, this is 2.4.9

If I downgrade ppp to version 2.4.8-r1, it's working again...

What if you rebuild network manager-l2tp with the newer ppp?

(CCed Poly because there were changes with ppp recently and he might have information.

It does look like it might just be a missing sub slot (dep) though.)

rebuild networkmanager-l2tp remove this line, but still not able to connect

before rebuild:

is there a way to get more info from ppp or NetworkManager in the logs why is it failing?

I change the log level in NetworkManager this way:

nmcli general logging level trace domains all

but no more info, just a "connect-failed".
