I've just upgraded from gcc-3.3.4 to 3.3.5. Compilation of k3b-0.11.18, gtk+-2.4.14, avidemux-2.0.36 fail with the following message: /bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -O2 -pipe -march=athlon-xp -fforce-addr -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -mfpmath=sse -Wall -o libpixbufloader-tiff.la -rpath /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/loaders -avoid-version -module io-tiff.lo -ltiff libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la -lgmodule-2.0 -ldl -lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lm grep: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5.4/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory /bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5.4/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory libtool: link: `/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5.4/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive And in fact, /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5.4/ does not exist; i've only got /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/ Solution: # fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.5.4 This should be done automatically by emerge IMHO. # emerge info Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.0, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.10 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.92.0.2-r1 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1-r2 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -pipe -march=athlon-xp -fforce-addr -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -mfpmath=sse" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -pipe -march=athlon-xp -fforce-addr -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -mfpmath=sse" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache digest distcc distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms userpriv" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.rhnet.is/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowex X X509 aalib alsa apache2 apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo cdparanoia cdr chroot crypt cscope cups curl dga directfb doc dv dvb dvd dvdr encode erandom esd extensions f77 faad fam fbcon flac flash font-server foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm ggi gif gimpprint gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile ieee1394 imagemagick imap imlib innodb ipv6 jack java javascript jikes joystick jpeg junit kde kerberos krb4 lcms ldap libcaca libg++ libwww live lzo mad mcal md5sum memlimit mikmod mmx mng motif mozilla mpeg mpi mysql ncurses network nls nptl nvidia odbc offensive oggvorbis opengl pam parse-clocks pcre pdflib perl pic png ppds prelude python qt quicktime readline real rtc samba scanner sdl skey slang slp sndfile snmp socks5 speex spell sqlite sse ssl svg svga tcltk tcpd tetex tga theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb v4lv4l2 vim-with-x wmf wxwindows x86 xchattext xml xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid xvmc yaz zlib linguas_it"
Note: it's NOT a typo. it's really "3.3.5.4", not 3.3.4. And, obviously, I've never had such version.
