Created attachment 691266 [details] build.log + automake.out + emerge --info.txt I don't think it's due to automake-1.16.3. I'm having mitigated success trying to reproduce, "usually" it works. Some kind of race condition?
Upon closer look this seems introduced by autoconf-2.71 and may be (randomly) happening for potentially many packages (I especially suspect old ones).
