Description Zoë Sparks 2021-03-14 04:56:55 UTC
Failed to emerge with the message "Failed Running automake !". Running `automake` from the working directory gave:

configure.ac:5: error: your implementation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE comes from an
configure.ac:5: old Automake version. You should recreate aclocal.m4
configure.ac:5: with aclocal and run automake again
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: error: am__fastdepCC does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: The usual way to define 'am__fastdepCC' is to add 'AC_PROG_CC'
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: to 'configure.ac' and run 'aclocal' and 'autoconf' again
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: error: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: The usual way to define 'AMDEP' is to add one of the compiler tests
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: AC_PROG_CC, AC_PROG_CXX, AC_PROG_OBJC, AC_PROG_OBJCXX,
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: AM_PROG_AS, AM_PROG_GCJ, AM_PROG_UPC
/usr/share/automake-1.16/am/depend2.am: to 'configure.ac' and run 'aclocal' and 'autoconf' again

Running `aclocal` followed by `automake --add-missing` in the working directory was enough for the build to proceed and finish successfully.

Unfortunately, I forgot to save the build log from the non-working build, so sorry about that. Hopefully this problem is as simple as it appears.

build.log + automake.out + emerge --info.txt

I don't think it's due to automake-1.16.3.

I'm having mitigated success trying to reproduce, "usually" it works.

Some kind of race condition?
Comment 2 Ionen Wolkens gentoo-dev 2021-03-14 10:36:44 UTC
Upon closer look this seems introduced by autoconf-2.71 and may be (randomly) happening for potentially many packages (I especially suspect old ones).
