When someone upgrades portage, a message should be displayed informing the user of the docs available from the Gentoo Doc Project [Working with Gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=0)]. This additions would help new users figure out how to use Gentoo/portage on their own and reduce the number of questions asked on the forums and irc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Putting a hold on feature requests for portage as they are drowning out the bugs. Most of these features should be available in the next major version of portage. But for the time being, they are just drowning out the major bugs and delaying the next version's progress. Any bugs that contain patches and any bugs for etc-update or dispatch-conf can be reopened. Sorry, I'm just not good enough with bugzilla. ;)
This could easily be added in postinst as an einfo deal.
Created attachment 75661 [details, diff] adds some einfo output with a link to postinst
After thinking about it, the section about Portage specifically is probably more appropriate, so the URL should be changed to: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=3 Also, 'consult' is misspelled.
Created attachment 75679 [details, diff] fixed misspelling, update link.
fixed, thanks for the patch :)
