Created attachment 48172 [details, diff] fix_xincludes.patch This looks like the same bug we had with totem where -L$x_libraries fails because $x_libraries is empty. It is empty because there is no extra linking needed since gentoo now puts its xlibs directly in /usr/lib. Using the same logic from the totem patch will fix this as well.
I'm using this version of xorg, so I should be seeing it too right ? @ reporter : post the config.log from the portage builddir.

common sense : don't c&p logs that big, attach them ! Bugs become totally unreadable with all that output in them. quick solution (probably) : remerge loudmouth *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 62283 ***
Just FYI. I was having the same exact problem. Re-emerging loudmouth before gossip worked fine. Oktay
This is still borked, even after rebuilding loudmouth and trying the patch above: checking GOSSIP_LIBS... -Wl,--export-dynamic -pthread -lxslt -lglade-2.0 -lloudmouth-1 -lgnomeui-2 -lSM -lICE -lbonoboui-2 -lxml2 -lpthread -lz -lgnomecanvas-2 -lgnome-2 -lpopt -lart_lgpl_2 -lpangoft2-1.0 -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -latk-1.0 -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lpangoxft-1.0 -lpangox-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgnomevfs-2 -lbonobo-2 -lgconf-2 -lbonobo-activation -lORBit-2 -lm -lgmodule-2.0 -ldl -lgthread-2.0 -ldbus-glib-1 -ldbus-1 -lglib-2.0 checking for XScreenSaverRegister in -lXext... no checking for XScreenSaverRegister in -lXss... yes configure: error: Couldn't find XScreenSaver extension. !!! What I'd like to know is, if it's checking for the same function in either of the above libs, why doesn't it work when it finds it in the second lib? Or is it required to be in both places?
The problem in this bug has nothing todo with xscreensaver, but in missing in loudmouth symbols due to gnutls binary versioning. The latter is something that should've been fixed, but it isn't a gossip/loudmouth bug in the first place. Now why you reopen this bug without providing needed info i dunno? No we don't know why your particular tests fail, if you read the bug you would've seen which 2 possible known problems could've caused this and what info is required to find the problem and acted upon that. I expected a little more effort...
Sorry, I don't have those errors; the only relevant error in my log is: : undefined reference to `XScreenSaverRegister' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Plus, my effort's been sucked out of me already; you'll have to get in line behind a large aerospace company... :) This time it happened on a newly built system from the 2005.0 release: Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.3-20050110, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.11.2 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11.2 i686 AMD Sempron(tm) 2200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.11 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, May 7 2005, 22:21:46)] distcc 2.16 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [enabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: [Not Present] sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r8 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distcc distlocks sandbox sfperms strict userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://megatron.arnolds.bogus/gentoo/" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j7" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://megatron.arnolds.bogus/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowext X aalib acl acpi alsa apm avi bitmap-fonts bonobo cdparanoia cdr crypt cups curl dga directfb divx4linux dv dvd dvdr dvdread eds emacs emboss encode esd evo f77 fam fbcon flac foomaticdb fortran freetype freetype2 gb gcj gd gdbm gif gimp gnome gphoto2 gpm gps graphviz gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml hal icq imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 jabber java jbig jikes jpeg jpg junit lame lcms ldap libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx mmxext motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl plotutils png postgres python qt quicktime readline samba sasl sdl slp spell sse ssl tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb v4l v4l2 vorbis wifi win32codecs x86 xanim xine xml xml2 xmms xv zeo zlib video_cards_radeon userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LINGUAS

Ok, even after following the parent bug stuff, ie, the revdep-rebuild dance that dragonheart posted (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62283#c14) gossip still bombs as below (note, revdep-rebuild only applies to the old box, not the new one). After adding both loudmouth and gossip to package.keywords (~x86) gossip built successfully, however, only loudmouth was upgraded by going ~x86. It might be time to bump one or both packages... So, loudmouth-0.17.2-r1 with gossip-0.8 borked on a new install and an old box. After revdep-rebuild of gnutls, it still borked on the old box, but works now after upgrading to loudmouth-0.17.2-r2. The new box already had both in package.keywords, yet still borked with the error below (and there's nothing to rev-dep rebuild). I used the binary built on the old box to install on the new, since they both have the same USE flags, CFLAGS, etc. However, the build is still borked (and yes, I tried rebuilding loudmouth, gnutls, and anything else I could think of on the new box).
sorry, i already had a fix for this, just didn't commit it yet.
added a config fix which should fix this to 0.8,.
