obz@azure obz # qpkg -f /usr/lib/libXss.so
x11-base/xorg-x11 *

Did you build a minimal xorg or something?
Is /usr/lib/libXss.so missing for you?

If you answered 'yes' to either of those questions, you should probably remerge xorg-x11 with something like USE="bitmap-fonts -minimal truetype-fonts type1-fonts".

fix_xincludes.patch

This looks like the same bug we had with totem where -L$x_libraries fails
because $x_libraries is empty. It is empty because there is no extra linking
needed since gentoo now puts its xlibs directly in /usr/lib. Using the same
logic from the totem patch will fix this as well.
Comment 3 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-11 04:29:14 UTC
I'm using this version of xorg, so I should be seeing it too right ?

@ reporter : post the config.log from the portage builddir.
Comment 4 pdz 2005-01-11 11:31:13 UTC
Same configure error here.

common sense : don't c&p logs that big, attach them ! Bugs become totally unreadable with all that output in them.

quick solution (probably) : remerge loudmouth

Just FYI. I was having the same exact problem. Re-emerging loudmouth before gossip worked fine.

This is still borked, even after rebuilding loudmouth and trying the patch above:

What I'd like to know is, if it's checking for the same function in either of
the above libs, why doesn't it work when it finds it in the second lib? Or is
it required to be in both places?
Comment 8 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-02 03:35:16 UTC
The problem in this bug has nothing todo with xscreensaver, but in missing in loudmouth symbols due to gnutls binary versioning. The latter is something that should've been fixed, but it isn't a gossip/loudmouth bug in the first place.

Now why you reopen this bug without providing needed info i dunno? No we don't know why your particular tests fail, if you read the bug you would've seen which 2 possible known problems could've caused this and what info is required to find the problem and acted upon that. I expected a little more effort...
Comment 9 Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2005-05-09 23:39:44 UTC
Sorry, I don't have those errors; the only relevant error in my log is:

: undefined reference to `XScreenSaverRegister'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Plus, my effort's been sucked out of me already; you'll have to get in line
behind a large aerospace company... :)

This time it happened on a newly built system from the 2005.0 release:

Comment 11 Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2005-05-10 19:21:15 UTC
Ok, even after following the parent bug stuff, ie, the revdep-rebuild dance
that dragonheart posted (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62283#c14)
gossip still bombs as below (note, revdep-rebuild only applies to the old
box, not the new one).

After adding both loudmouth and gossip to package.keywords (~x86) gossip built
successfully, however, only loudmouth was upgraded by going ~x86. It might be
time to bump one or both packages...

So, loudmouth-0.17.2-r1 with gossip-0.8 borked on a new install and an old box.
After revdep-rebuild of gnutls, it still borked on the old box, but works now
after upgrading to loudmouth-0.17.2-r2.

The new box already had both in package.keywords, yet still borked with the
error below (and there's nothing to rev-dep rebuild). I used the binary built on the old box to install on the new, since they both have the same USE flags,
CFLAGS, etc. However, the build is still borked (and yes, I tried rebuilding
loudmouth, gnutls, and anything else I could think of on the new box).
Comment 12 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-27 02:58:38 UTC
sorry, i already had a fix for this, just didn't commit it yet.
Comment 13 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-27 14:16:02 UTC
added a config fix which should fix this to 0.8,.
