Description damage 2005-01-06 00:24:01 UTC
Hi,
as i noticed, libpanel.so is a module whitch should be installed by sys-libs/ncurses. I think this package is part of the stage2 package, isn't it? But i can not find it. Also it's in the stage2/2004.2 package. So is it lost, or just moved to somewhere else?

btw: libncurses was unpacked from stage2/2004.3

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.unpack stage2/2004.3
2.try to find libpanel.so (or something like that)

Actual Results:
nothing

Expected Results:
find libpanel.so

icetea ~ # emerge -f /usr/lib/libpanel.so
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "/usr/lib/libpanel.so".

The only way to get libpanel is to install a binary ncurses packet. Are you sure that this is what you want?

i dont see an actual error here

re-open when you have one
Comment 4 damage 2005-01-08 01:48:58 UTC
it is an error!!!

there is no official way to get libpanel.so.

yes, i really think this is a bug!
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-01-08 01:51:10 UTC
you dont need libpanel.so in stage2
Comment 6 damage 2005-01-08 04:15:14 UTC
may be, i dont need in stage2... but i need in kismet. sure, you can start kismet with curses, but curses has e.g. no support for popups. so you are not able to do anything with kismet. i'm very sorry if this is a kismet bug, or libpanel is moved into another package. but i need libpanel.so - believe it or not.

btw: i don't meen gtk or gnome libpanel!!!

which is why you STILL havent described what your problem is

here, lemme try for you

"I downloaded the 2004.3 stage2 for x86. after i installed it, did `emerge system` to get to stage3, i began emerging packages for my system. when i tried to emerge kismet, it failed because libpanel.so was missing!"

does that describe your situation ? you cant file vague bug reports and expect people to magically read your mind
Comment 8 damage 2005-01-09 02:30:39 UTC
nice... that's what i meen

I downloaded the 2004.3 stage2 for x86. after i installed it, did `emerge system` to get to stage3, i began emerging packages for my system. when i tried to emerge kismet, it failed to compile with panel support, because libpanel.so was missing!

whatever... is this a library problem or a kismet problem?

Someone has put a half package into the stage.

emerge ncurses
