Description Baobab 2005-01-03 10:08:27 UTC
When booting from the live cd, on both boot options, the boot sequence hangs at the listing of sata devices. having listed four ata1-ata4 ports with irq0 and then relisting ata1 with the HDD specs.

I have had troubles with yellowdog and ubuntu with cd-rom detection and so it may be hanging whilst trying to detect the cd-rom???

You are using the PPC64 LiveCD, correct?
Comment 2 Baobab 2005-01-04 11:30:27 UTC
I booted from the PPC64 liveCD trying both G5 and G5-devfs options, but still no clue of what's happening. Earlier today i saw that the superdrive was detected as hda when using verbose mode(debug) so it's probably not the cd-rom detection?

I've been told by Yellowdog that they have a problem with the newest PowerMac G5's 9,1:

"There is a new version of the Powermac G5 that just came out, which has
been giving us some problems.

Boot the G5 into Open Firmware (hold down Option-Apple-O-F while

The first line should read something like:
Apple PowerMac7,3 ......

If it says something like PowerMac9,1 (or anything above 7,3), you have
this new G5.

We are working on fixing this, but we have no timeframe set yet."

Would this have the same effect with Gentoo?

yes, Gentoo would have the same problems as Yellow Dog. This is basicly a kernel
problem and it takes some while until the changes are done...

this needs to fixed in kernel. I mark this as CANTFIX. We just have to wait
until benh or anybody else implements this new G5 version.
