Even after applying the patch from bug 751211 for compatibility with linux-5.9, compiling broadcom-sta- for linux-5.10 fails (again):

net-wireless/broadcom-sta- was built with the following:
Comment 2 strawman2511 2020-12-26 11:01:31 UTC
I think I have the same problem too. But I don't build it from broadcom-sta ebuild. I compile my own broadcom-wl driver for myself. Link over here:

Old Linux kernel version it work pretty well. Except for the new Linux Kernel 5.10

`broadcom-wl` in Arch also have the same problem.

I think that the problem is Broadcom seem don't write new broadcom driver for Linux kernel 5.10 so we need to patch it if we want broadcom wireless work.

I don't sure if I can patch this. I just a newbie come to open source who try to learn C anyway. But if I can, I will try my best.
Comment 3 tka 2021-01-09 14:36:56 UTC
Arch Linux has a patch, which can be found at

Actually, this is a patch that establishes compatibility with linux-5.9 and linux-5.10. The other patch for linux-5.9 mentioned in bug #751211 is no longer needed and conflicts with this one.
Comment 4 Azamat H. Hackimov 2021-01-12 09:25:52 UTC
Isn't patch breaks compatibility with kernel < 5.9?
Comment 5 Nikolay Kichukov 2021-01-29 16:06:37 UTC
Thanks, the patch worked on 5.10.10 gentoo kernel.
Comment 6 Mustafa 2021-02-12 04:45:58 UTC
Now I have the same problem with linux-5.10.15 :(
Comment 7 DogHackit 2021-03-26 07:14:12 UTC
Same issue with gentoo-sources-5.11.9. I applied the patch from and that fixed my installation issue.
Comment 8 Faraclas 2021-04-02 15:48:22 UTC
Same issue for me here.
Comment 9 SergeiMinaev 2021-04-02 17:29:45 UTC
Same issue here.

I've created an overlay with patched version of broadcom-sta-

How to install:
1) Add "" to "overlays:" parameter in /etc/layman/layman.cfg
2) layman -L
3) layman -a broadcom_bcm43142
4) emerge -av broadcom-sta::broadcom_bcm43142

I've tested it on Lenovo B590 with Linux-5.11.10.
Comment 10 Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2021-04-06 09:27:54 UTC
see bug #751211 too

The patch for this bug also fixes #751211.

I have tested this on my BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter and it works
