There is new stable version of the gtk+ - 2.6.0 and there is no ebuild for it. I have bumped the old ebuild with some patches from fedora and it works for me for the last two days with xfce-4.2RC3 and gnome 2.8.
Created attachment 47149 [details] the ebuild for the new version it is partly bumped version of the old ebuild
Created attachment 47151 [details, diff] patches from fedora some patches from fedora, which also include the some earlier patches
Created attachment 47152 [details, diff] another patch some other patch, of which i don't know anything (it is in fedora and mandrake, that's why I thought it may be useful) :::)))

SRC_URI should be "ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/v2.6/${P}.tar.bz2"; it was v2.4.
I commented out all patches and 2.6 is working fine for me; are you sure all patches are necessary?
There are some patches which make the fileselection dialog multithreaded and so on goodies, of course you could use it without all of them, because these are extras which didn't make it upstream. The same is true for the smooth-scroll patch, which is not in the patchset and because of it we don't have this ebuild in the portage yet.
