The configure script that comes with openoffice uses a too simple script to check for the gcc version. The script returns all the notices except just the version. That breaks the lot.
I believe that what needs to be done is to change the call to "gcc --version" to "gcc -dumpversion". Unfortunately, my attempts to do so have failed for unknown reasons. I will continue to try.
It appears that the version bump from 1.0.0-r2 to 1.0.1 has resolved this bug. OpenOffice has compiled for me and at first glance seems to run fine.
