Hi guys, Trying to install via USB cdrom drive (don't have cdrom drive in server - waste of space and money :) livecd fails to mount root - tried root=/dev/sr0 - no go :( Also you can see more details in this thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1877532 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.attach usb cdrom drive :) 2.boot on gentoo livecd 3.watch it break :(
Which LiveCD? Which server? Did you use "doscsi" at boot?
I did not realize usb cdrom was related to scsi so no :) I tried doscsi now - and I indeed get futher. Now waiting for "scanning for tmscsim..." to fail.. it has taken several minutes now - doubting it will ever get past that. I tried using nodetect - but that appereantly does not go for "loading modules" stage of the live cd :( p.s. it's an ich5-r SATA controller. Any way to disable the autoloading of modules?
Unfortunately, no. I am working on a solution with the tmscsim module, but it most likely won't be something I can fix until the next release in February. If you're able to install from an older LiveCD, then I would suggest using that and simply using the 2004.3 stages to perform your install. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 72055 ***
Ok. I'll do that. Thanks for helping - and sorry it was kindof a bogus bug :)
No problem, at all... I plan on modifying the "help" that gets displayed to make it more accurate and better capable for the future.
