So java should not be built by my meening here. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge sys-libs/db 2. 3. Actual Results: It wants to emerge dev-java/blackdown-jdk aswell Expected Results: To build sys-libs/db without java support. your `emerge info` shows USE=java if you dont want java, put -java into your make.conf
but why does ufed then for instance show java as NOT selected, and no stars behind it. Ufed and other portage tools then needs to be updated about these cases.
While not a bug, I like to reopen. It's an issue, that our documentation doesn't say anything about the base profile and stacked profiles in general.
doc herd: Profiles are mentioned in the "Portage and Related Documentation" pages, but if I did not overlook it, there's no real description what profiles are and what their purpose is. Stacked profiles are not covered, too. I think it's important enough to justify its own section.
i'm not sure what doc's has to do with the original bug report here :P ufed is known to not work with cascading profiles and plenty of bugs have been filed already addressing that cascading profiles are already documented: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/docs/cascading-profiles.xml
>i'm not sure what doc's has to do with the original bug report here :P That's why I renamed the bug. :p http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/docs/cascading-profiles.xml Great, so we have the user friendly documentation already. Just in a place where it's hard to find. So we need only a few sentences to describe it and can link to the more extensive information.
We're working on an improved documentation hierarchical index. Should resolve this. Or you can search through google to find our documents. Also, in the future, please start a new bug instead of reopening and renaming. It's very confusing. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 67826 ***
