Ahem. Seems like I forgot to remove my own patch :)

Removing the patch resolved my issue as well: rm -R /etc/portage/patches/media-sound/clementine-1.4.0_rc1/ I always assumed, which I now know is wrong, that the version would change when the ebuild changes. That would have prevented this confusion.
Builds fine with clang+lld now. Both 1.4.0_rc1, and 9999
