jEdit 4.1 had a menu item "Insert Files..." on the File menu that inserted the text of a selected file at the insertion point in the current file, and I used this feature frequently. I can't find any mention of this feature being moved or removed in the documentation for jEdit 4.2, but I also can't find this menu item or an equivalent on any other menu. I am working around it right now by opening the file to be inserted in another buffer, selecting and copying all the text in that file, and pasting into the desired location. However, this is not near as convenient as the old method. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Emerge app-editors/jedit-4.2 2. Run jedit 3. Check File menu Actual Results: The menu does not contain anything that I thought resembled the old menu item "Insert File..." emerge info output: Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.2, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r1 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r1 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.21-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://mirror.tucdemonic.org/gentoo/ ftp://mirrors.tds.net/gentoo ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/pub/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.ccccom.com" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/bmg-main" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo cdr crypt cups doc dvd dvdr encode esd f77 fam flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimp gimpprint gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imagemagick imlib jack java jpeg junit kde lcms libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls oci8 odbc oggvorbis ooo-kde opengl oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktimereadline ruby samba sdl slang speex spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype usb wxwindows x86 xml xml2 xmms xv zlib"
From: http://www.jedit.org/CHANGES42.txt As of 4.2pre7 - Removed File->Insert File command. As before, you can still invoke File->Open and select "Insert" from a file's right-click menu in the file system browser. As the change indicates the File->Insert File command was removed, but still exists within the File System Browser. You can highlight groups of files via the File System Browser and invoke the Insert command to get the desired results. Sorry for the inconvience, I only manage the ebuild, not the whole application :)
