Description Bernd Waibel 2004-11-21 03:50:33 UTC
for several days now, portage continually wants to downgrade my existing
gtkdiskfree-1.9.3 package to rel. 1.8.4.

I took a look in ChangeLog, but found no comment, that caused the downgrade.

To verify my installed rel. I fired a 'equery list gtkdiskfree' and got this
error:
Searching for package 'gtkdiskfree' in all categories among:
 * installed packages
!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'app-admin/gtkdiskfree-1.9.3' not specified:
!!! None
!!! Internal portage error, terminating
!!! "'app-admin/gtkdiskfree-1.9.3' at None"

A look in /usr/portage/app-admin/gtkdiskfree shows me, that there is only an
ebuild for the 1.8.4 release. But where has the ebuild for 1.9.3 gone, and
why has it gone?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. you must have gtkdiskfree-1.9.3 already installed
2. emerge -uvD world
3.

Actual Results:
portage want's to downgrade gtkdiskfree from installed rel. 1.9.3 to rel. 1.8.4.

Expected Results:
don't know :) if there's a problem with rel. 1.9.3 (although I haven't found
any problems yet during using it) then this behavior will be ok, but then it
should be commented in the ChangeLog. if there's no problem then portage should
leave the installed release alone. But portage doesn't actually know of a rel.
1.9.3 because it only has an ebuild for rel. 1.8.4. So where has the other
ebuild gone?

Comment 1 Alexandru Toma 2004-11-21 04:29:12 UTC
Version 1.9.3 was removed, for some reason, from the portage tree... see the changelog: http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/app-admin/gtkdiskfree/ChangeLog
Comment 2 Daniel Black (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-21 04:57:24 UTC
Mike - was there a reason for this?
Comment 3 Bernd Waibel 2004-11-21 06:08:49 UTC
well, that's what I wrote. But why has it removed? The ChangeLog only
contains an entry -gtkdiskfree-1.9.3 but without any reason.

Also isn't it an error to remove the ebuild before anybody has the chance
to actually update?

At least portage says, it has encountered an internal error as you can see
from my first post.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-11-21 15:24:20 UTC
hmm i think i deleted that by accident, i'll check it out
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-11-21 18:29:54 UTC
