Description Yang Dehua 2004-11-15 00:40:09 UTC
I emerged metacity 2.8.6 in my ppc64(G5) using gtk+2.4.4 and gnome 2.6.2 successfully, but the the system freezed after the gnome was brought up. The only thing I could do was to switch off the computer; no response to keyboard and mouse.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="ppc64 ~ppc64" emerge metacity
2. startx

Actual Results:
System freezed

Expected Results:
Usable gnome gui

1. please provide the output of `emerge info` (read the bug report guidelines please)
2. Don't alter the accept_keywords var on a one time basis like that, use /etc/porgage/package.use (man portage)
3. Are you using the composite extension for xorg? If so you need to disable it as the metacity build says to.
4. If no to number 3, can you provide a more detailed error, possibly some relevent information from X logs or .xsession-errors
Comment 2 Joe McCann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-15 00:49:46 UTC
/etc/portage/package.keywords rather
Comment 3 Yang Dehua 2004-11-15 02:58:52 UTC
Thank you. It worked after I disabled the composite extension in xorg.conf. Thanks again.
