the file pam_env.conf breaks X11Forwarding in ssh! :( just commenting away the /^DISPLAY/ line fixes the issue, this really bites as I ONLY use ssh for remote-X sessions a default system should not just make up a DISPLAY= variable, but allow other systems to set it up when needed - as ssh tries..
oh, and the /^XAUTHORITY/ should also be removed as it generates alot of noise in system logs, these two lines appear for EVERY login: -- Nov 10 08:38:19 hjem PAM-env[14132]: Unknown PAM_ITEM: <XAUTHORITY> Nov 10 08:38:19 hjem sshd[14132]: PAM pam_putenv: delete non-existent entry; XAUTHORITY -- (yes, they started to appear before I started to fiddle with the configfile)
should they really be commented out or it's just a bug in this version of pam and it's better to downgrade it and/or wait for new release?
I believe it's not a pam-bug, but rather a faulty config that gentoo distributes with it's ebuild. The file is a result of bug69925, but apparently the file is just broken or a bad decision was made.
