this hack writed into /etc/profile helps me # fix for DISPLAY & AUDIOSERVER if [ "$XDM_MANAGED" != '' ] then export DISPLAY=`perl -e 'print ($ARGV[0]=~/\-(.*?),/)' $XDM_MANAGED`; export AUDIOSERVER=`perl -e 'print ($ARGV[0]=~/\-(.*?):/).":0"' $XDM_MANAGED`; else export AUDIOSERVER=`perl -e 'print $ARGV[0].":0"' $SSH_CLIENT`; fi
Without that hack, try `echo ${DISPLAY}` when you log in.
i add into /etc/profile this line: echo ${DISPLAY} > $HOME/out.a homebox free # more /home/free/out.a 192.168.0.2:0.0 but i logged from 192.168.0.2:1 "Xnest -query 192.168.0.22 :1" display number is always 0.0
error was in /etc/security/pam_env.conf http://www.linuxforum.com/forums/index.php?s=32f6f110a3bdef3e7d012e505255e0d1&showtopic=113734&st=0&#entry494476
