Problem

If you use ALSA you need to have your sound card drivers as modules. Although in
 the doc is shows the use of Modules to get ALSA running it doesn't tell users
specificly that you can't have your soundcard support compiled into the Kernel.

Fix

Note: When using ALSA you with kernel 2.4 you must have sound card support as a
module in the kernel.
