For me this happens now due to having flatpak installed and it prepending its paths into XDG_DATA_DIRS and then the tests hits the sandbox from trying to access these paths.
If I add XDG_DATA_DIRS to ENV_UNSET, the problem goes away

Ah, for you it was a common dbus[-X] problem
