sorry but "emerge info" gives the same error.

I got this on another server too but the 'rm' and 'ln -s' steps worked fine there, but it already used a later version of portage.

bizar, another round of google got me this link

Commenting out the USE line in the make.default got me working again...

you didnt follow instructions

step #1 was to update to portage-2.0.51
