Description mark 2004-10-29 17:35:15 UTC
Ok. I know people have had problems with this, but nobody found a fix. i searched the bugs.gentoo.org for this error and there is none, so i opened this.
I emerged entrance 0.9.0.20041016. I changed my rc.conf to use entrace isntead of my usual gdm. Then i rebooted my computer and entrace shows up properly. Then i log into kde and then it complains that it cant use the sound device because the permissions are not set up. ls -l through xterm shows:
crw------- 1 root audio 14, 3 Oct 29 17:16 dsp
But if i switch to a virtual terminal and re-run ls -l or even play a song, it works. Permissions show up as:
crw------- 1 mark audio 14, 3 Oct 29 17:16 dsp
. Now after i do that through a virtual terminal and go back to kde (alt + f7) sound works like a charm. For somereason, using entrance messes up the permissions or something to do with audio. Because even my user is in the audio group. If i use gdm or kdm, sound works fine as a normal user with out having to do this virtual term stuff)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.First install entrance and set it up as default login manager
2.Reboot computer
3.Log into kde

Actual Results:
Kde logs in. sound will not work

Expected Results:
Should be able to log in with sound working

Im using kernel 2.6.9-nitro2, udev, kde 3.3

Sound is also borked for e-16, and starting gnome from entrance causes it to hang
(failing to load anything but the splash and the mouse cursor). All of the above
work fine when started from gdm.

known issue upstream with pam handling ... it'll be fixed eventually :)
Comment 3 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-02-04 07:42:53 UTC
here that should have been UPSTREAM ... oh well
