Created attachment 589264 [details] Minimum working example (TeX file) In TeXlive 2017 (sorry, I'm not sure exactly which package this pertains to, as Texlive consists of many packages), you currently can't do \usepackage[USenglish]{babel} If you try this, you get an error saying it can't find USenglish.ldf. You have to do \usepackage[usenglish]{babel} However, USenglish is a standard and valid language name according to the Babel documentation, and it works fine on one other Linux distribution I tried. This could prevent Gentoo from being able to compile standard LaTeX files that work elsewhere. I have attached a minimal working example, as well as the log file and command line output. I'd work harder on getting y'all a more complete solution, but this LaTeX macro stuff is black magic and way over my head. Thanks!
