Hi
just installed a fresh gentoo ~amd64 installation
using amd64/17.1/desktop/gnome/systemd profile

after emerging mariadb-10.4.6 I fail to start the service
because it fails with an error indicating that my_print_defaults is being executed with an unknown parameter called `--mysqld`

because of that it did not install the initial tables, and running
/usr/share/mariadb/scripts/mysql_install_db provides the same error

then I tried to backup and remove my_print_defaults and create a dynamic link instead of /usr/libexec/mariadb/my_print_defaults

and then I went to /usr directory as root and executed

/usr/share/mariadb/scripts/mysql_install_db

and I got:

chown: cannot access '/auth_pam_tool_dir': No such file or directory
Cannot change ownership of the '/auth_pam_tool_dir' directory
 to the 'mysql' user. Check that you have the necessary permissions and try again.

so.. no idea how to investigate the issue any further :)

thanks
