Please post the output of `emerge cyrus-sasl -vp` and `java-config -L`

Actually the problem went away, strangely.  It may have had to do with portage being updated and my not having done an env-update.

I relogged in sometime later after an env-update and things emerged just fine.

I think (hope) this is probably not a real bug but just triggered by a misuse of portage on my part as I forgot to do an env-update?
