finally running xlsfonts|grep <some font name from the package, like for example bright" returns nothing, null.

listing /usr/share/fonts/lfpfponts-fix/* shows the fonts, however none work.

What version did you try to emerge?
Also, which one were you using,
xorg-x11 or xfree (including version
number)? The output of `emerge info`
would help as well.

> What version did you try to emerge?
Right now this one: lfpfonts-fix-0.83-r1

> Also, which one were you using,
I dont remember, go back 2 - 3 version numbers and you got a release that works.

> xorg-x11 or xfree (including version number)?
xorg-x11  6.8.0-r3

>The output of `emerge info` would help as well.

Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-amd64-2004.2, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 x86_64)
=================================================================
System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+

CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control"
CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d"
CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe"

At this exact point, portage fetches and installs the package, and the fonts are in /usr/share/fonts/lfp-fix , and as a side comment, I why are lfpfonts-var are in /usr/share/fonts/lfpfonts-var , when "lfpfonts-fix" is only "lfp-fix" ?

Anyways, the fonts are there, but none work, yes none, 0 null, nada :/

This is what you see when emerging the fonts:

No glyph for character U+0410 (0xe1) available.
No glyph for character U+0411 (0xe2) available.
No glyph for character U+0426 (0xe3) available.
No glyph for character U+0414 (0xe4) available.
No glyph for character U+0415 (0xe5) available.
No glyph for character U+0424 (0xe6) available.
No glyph for character U+0413 (0xe7) available.
No glyph for character U+0425 (0xe8) available.
No glyph for character U+0418 (0xe9) available.
No glyph for character U+0419 (0xea) available.
No glyph for character U+041A (0xeb) available.
No glyph for character U+041B (0xec) available.
...

I m not aware of what changes have been done either from the gentoo devs or the author of the fonts, but my sugestion is to go back to a version that works, because having this package in portage isnt really doing anything.

I would test and give you an exact version number that works, but unfortunally I cant find any of the older version anywhere.
Comment 3 Mamoru KOMACHI (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-26 01:51:47 UTC
Thanks. I confirmed the problem. However,
I could use any lfpfonts* with xfree, and
none of lfpfonts* work with xorg-x11.
Can you check you had working lfpfonts*
with xorg-x11? (and the version of xorg-x11
you were using?)

I'm pretty sure that this works correctly nowadays. Please re-open if you still see the problem
