Description David M. Sinclair 2002-08-19 03:43:52 UTC
During 'emerge system' on Gentoo 1.2 from a stage1 build, emerge bails out on
the procps package. Screenshots have been taken and can be found in the url
above. Any question just drop me a mail or msg me in IRC.

hmm... this looks like something cause by gcc's search order for libraries, can
you try a fresh install based on a 1.4 tarball? I belive it will all be ironed
out now.
Comment 2 Phil Almquist 2002-09-26 13:08:24 UTC
i am having the same problem with 1.4 on p3 500 compaq armada e500 notebook
Comment 3 Robert Wagner 2002-09-27 22:23:21 UTC
Mine bails as well, though with slightly different text. Built from fresh
install starting from stage1-x86-1.4_rc1-20020908-1208. Installing to Dual
Athlon-MP 1800.

The text different from the attached URL is:
gcc -Wl,-warn-common -o pgrep pgrep.o proc/libproc.so.2.0.7
gcc: proc/libproc.so.2.0.7: No such file or directory
make: *** [pgrep] Error 1
Comment 4 Robert Wagner 2002-09-27 22:28:25 UTC
Never mind mine comment above. Don't know if this will fix the other's problems.

I had: MAKEOPTS="-j6" in my make.conf file. Works great for everything else..
take it out of the make.conf file and Procps compiles up perfectly.
Comment 5 Seth Chandler 2002-10-03 08:46:18 UTC
I had the same problem when doing a distcc compile....that shouldn't make that
big of a difference to most people, but i think that the regular compile issue
has something to do with the -jX as robert said...

I'm working on getting newer procps package unmasked, then I'll need to confirm
that this is still a bug
Comment 7 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-11-08 11:03:34 UTC
there's a bug #9062 for new procps
what's now with this new version of procps ?
new version 3.0.5
http://procps.sourceforge.net/
http://procps.sourceforge.net/procps-3.0.5.tar.gz

i didn't understand
will this be included ?
Comment 8 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-11 17:17:35 UTC
Hrm... we're still waiting for a few more bugs to be fixed in the new 3.x series
of procps... it is in portage unstable tho.
Comment 9 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-17 13:04:20 UTC
I think this is old, long dead, and besides procps-3.x is now in stable.
