Deformed PDF presentation

This is surely a bug, although not necessarily in gentoo. I have writen a post in the forums describing it in detail here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1088932.html. This is how to reproduce it (have tested in three different machines):

1. create a presentation file using the powerdot class;
2. compile;
3. convert dvi to ps;
4. convert ps to PDF.

Although no errors are shown the result is a deformed PDF. As stated in the link above this bug is known for years (here it is in 2007 in a redhat bugzilla report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=467542) and there is a workaround for binary distros (I have used multiple times in fedora and it works), which consists in replacing the config.ps file for the one provided here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=320739. However, repeating this process in gentoo seems innocuous.

Using which commands from which packages?

Hi Jeroen Roovers, thank you for your reply. The latex file may be compiled in any way one prefers that the issue is still there. One such a way would be in the terminal, in which case the issue would be reproducible with the following steps:

1. open a terminal;
2. create the presentation file in any way you prefer (for example using vim) with any name you prefer, say "vim TEST.tex";
3. edit, save and leave the file "TEST.tex";
4. in the same terminal enter the command "latex TEST.tex";
5. in the same terminal enter the command "dvips TEST.dvi";
6. in the same terminal enter the command "ps2pdf TEST.ps TEST.pdf";
7. open the "TEST.pdf" file with any program of your choice, say evince with the command "evince TEST.pdf";

Regarding the latex version that is the one I am using:

presentations> latex
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.18 (TeX Live 2017) (preloaded format=latex)
 restricted \write18 enabled.
**

By the way, a reply to my post in the forum showed that it appears the issue is related with the default option "paper=screen" in the preamble: for example if instead one set "paper=a4paper" you get a correct format in a a4 paper. However, for most presentations screen is the mandatory option, so this is not an effective workaround.

Also, as the content of "TEST.tex" it may be as simple as this:

\documentclass{powerdot}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

\title{Powerdot Presentation}
\author{Sharelatex}
\date{\today}

\begin{document}

\maketitle

\begin{slide}{Slide Title}
\begin{itemize}
\item This is an item
\item Second item
\item Third item
\end{itemize}
\end{slide}
\end{document}

and the options I just mentioned in the preamble would be placed in brackets just before {powerdot} like this:

\documentclass[paper=a4paper]{powerdot}
