Hi, After emerging rust with ABI_X86="32 64" i noticed that it installs 32bit versions of the libraries into /usr/lib32/libname /usr/lib32/libterm-4e554f4495f10bc9.so /usr/lib32/libtest-a11b1871063c40b2.so /usr/lib32/libstd-5589a026d07e82fb.so yet 64 bit versions get installed into own subdir /usr/lib64/rust-1.26.0/libtest-a11b1871063c40b2.so /usr/lib64/rust-1.26.0/libterm-4e554f4495f10bc9.so /usr/lib64/rust-1.26.0/libstd-4eaf3f46ba0cb6d1.so emerge --info rust Portage 2.3.38 (python 3.6.5-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop/plasma, yes, that look creepy
this one is fixed as of https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=92095dbb4b8e52e573348add6e57bd11de3aafc7
This will break slotting for rustc - libdir = "$(get_libdir)/${P}" + libdir = "$(get_libdir)"
Oleg, originally, before mentioned commit, 64 bit stuff went into /usr/lib64/rust-1.26.0/*.so and 32 bit went into /usr/lib32/*.so rust ebuild was modified to install in uniform way: /usr/lib64/*.so and /usr/lib64/rust-1.26.0/*.so in mentioned commit https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=92095dbb4b8e52e573348add6e57bd11de3aafc7 it was 2 weeks ago. When I opened this bug I thought 32bit libs should go into /usr/lib32/rust-1.26.0/*.so similar to 64 bit stuff. I'll reopen this bug and ping rust team to get their input
I think it makes sense to include $P in the libdir, but I'd rather not stray too far from upstream. Is it clear from the upstream installation tooling what the canonical path for installing this stuff is, for both 32- and 64-bit libs?
I checked what rustup does and it installs native libs into ~/.rustup/toolchains/stable-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/lib/*.so binpkg does the same, installs into /opt/rust-bin-1.26.2/lib/*.so so no ${P} subdir there. Also I see that ::gentoo rust only has stable slot, beta slot/versions are not provided anymore.
but the rust overlay provides git slot, at least now.
What if use gcc-like installation? It has paths like /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/7.3.0/
Oleg, I think that could make sense, but I don't have time to work on it myself. If you want to take a swing at it I'll happily accept patches.
this has been fixed.
