How is this a Gentoo Linux specific issue?
I...actually don't know. I reported it here first because it was a gentoo package. 1. I'm assuming you mean to imply that I should have skipped the gentoo bugtracker and gone directly upstream. If that's the case, how should I have known ahead of time? 2. I'm...very unfamiliar with the "usual process", either with gentoo specifically or with software in general, about how to know where to report an issue. My assumption was that I report it here first, and then with the package's maintainer either escalating it to upstream or asking me to do so.

Please report the issue upstream if you can and link the bug here.
