Why did you put a single file in a tar archive? You could have just compressed the original file.

What version of clang/llvm?

clang fix

patch to fix the build issue with clang/llvm when using an "unstable" version.

I can't see how that patch would resolve anything.
Comment 6 José Pekkarinen 2018-04-02 06:33:14 UTC
Hi,

It's the third-party llvm version bundled in chromium, see in /var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-65.0.3325.146/work/chromium-65.0.3325.146/third_party/llvm.

Thanks!

José.

And yet, it works for me (on multiple machines). Which is the only things that really matter here.

Have you even tried it ?

I found this couple of weeks ago on a random post (don't remember which one).

FYI I am using sys-devel/llvm-6.0.9999, although llvm:5 is also installed. I haven't really investigated but I am wildly guessing there are some confusion during the compilation.

log of the build

Here is the log of the build failing without the patch.

With the patch the build is successful.

Gabriel, I believe you changed the chromium bundled llvm for your system wide, see below:

# find /usr/lib/llvm/ -name libLLVMSymbolize.so
/usr/lib/llvm/6/lib32/libLLVMSymbolize.so
/usr/lib/llvm/6/lib64/libLLVMSymbolize.so
/usr/lib/llvm/5/lib32/libLLVMSymbolize.so
/usr/lib/llvm/5/lib64/libLLVMSymbolize.so
# find /var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-65.0.3325.146/work/ -name libLLVMSymbolize.so
#

This means that unless chromium ship llvm to be sure no one modify the upstream project in their builds, you may potentially experiment random crashes or misbehaviours. Hopefully none of those things will came to you.

José.

I do not experience any build failures, so no, I have not "tried it".
Comment 11 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2018-04-02 15:56:52 UTC
sys-devel/clang-6.0.0-r1 contains a patch that has not yet been merged onto the 6.0 branch upstream.

clang-6.0.9999 is broken. Do not use it.

Upgrading to clang-6.0.0-r1 did it for me.

Thanks!

José.
